Jonah Carson enters his third year with the Pacific men'svolleyball team. Carson spent the previous six years as the headcoach of the UC Santa Cruz men's volleyball team. During his tenurewith the Banana Slugs, Carson handled responsibilities such asrecruiting, player development, building a team culture, playereligibility, fundraising and budget for the program, in addition toscheduling. With Carson at the helm, UC Santa Cruz responded with astreak of 67-consecutive weeks in the top five of the AVCA poll.His team reached the Molten Final Four Championships four times(2006, 2008, 2009, 2010) and the Finals twice (2008, 2010). Hecoached 10 Division III All-Americans, 2008 Player of the YearBryan Shires and 2010 Newcomer of the year Salvatore La Cavera.Carson was a four-time AVCA D-III Coach of the Year Finalist(2006-08, 2010).
2012 was another year of progress for the Tigers with the helpof Carson. Pacific finished the season ranked 14th in the country,while finishing fourth in all of Division I with 3.01 blocks perset. Under Carson's guidance the Orange and Black finished theseason with 69 block solos and 482 block assists.
In 2011, Carson helped the Tigers become one of the premiereblocking teams in the country. Pacific finished the season rankedthird in the country with 2.92 blocks per set. They finished theseason with 489 block assists and 62 block solos, while finishingthe season ranked 15th in the country.
Carson has also worked on the national stage with the USAVolleyball Program, while coaching at the High PerformanceTournament with the USA Select teams. Also, he assisted as aTechnical Coordinator with the USA Boys' Youth National Team at the2011 FIVA Boys' Youth World Championships. In 2012 he was anassistant with the Men's Junior National Team that caputured goldat the NORCECA Championships and qualified for 2013 FIVB JuniorWorld Championships.
While handling responsibilities for the Banana Slugs, he wasalso asked to participate with the USA High performance selectteams. In 2010, he was the head coach of the USA Boy's Select A3Camp, and from 2007-12, he was an assistant coach for USA BoysSelect A1 High Performance Championships.
Prior to taking the reigns as the head coach at UC Santa Cruz,Jonah worked with the Bay to Bay Volleyball Club, where he coachedteams and served as the lead coach. His development helpedcoordinate and develop coaches, and various teams he coachedqualified for the Junior Olympics.
His coaching résumé has taken him through AustinCollege (1996-98), Aptos High School (2002-05), and the UC SantaCruz women's volleyball team. While at Aptos High School, Carsonwas a three-time SCCAL Coach of the Year (2003-05) and three-timesection championship participant (2003-05).
Jonah Carson taught high school English for eight years, andobtained his masters in secondary education from UC Santa Cruz.
