Amy (VanHollebeke) Ferrell enters her seventh season as an assistant coach for her alma mater in 2016-17. One of her key responsibilities with the Tigers is working with Pacific's guards. In six seasons on the Tigers' staff, nine of Pacific's guards have earned All-Conference recognition: Hailie Eackles (2015, 2016), Desire Finnie (2016), Unique Coleman (2014), Gena Johnson (2011, 2013), GeAnna Luaulu-Summers (2015), Erica McKenzie (2012, 2013), KiKi Moore (2014), Madison Parrish (2015) and Ashley Wakefield (2013).
The Tigers' offense ranked second in the WCC in scoring with 70.8 points per game in 2014-15. The Tigers were also second in assists (15.2 per game) and led the conference in turnover margin (+5.39) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1). The Pacific offense finished second in the WCC in 2014 with 76.5 points per game while averaging 14.4 assists per game (447 assists on 763 made field goals. In 2013, the Tigers led the Big West in points per game (69.0), scoring margin (+8.6), three-point shooting (.345) and finished second in field goal percentage (.408), third in assists (13.4, 469 assists on 867 field goals. Pacific was second in the BWC in scoring offense (69.2 PPG), second in three-point shooting (.324), third in field goal percentage (.398) and fourth in assists (13.1) in 2012. Pacific also was fourth in assists in 2011 (13.5).
In six years on staff, Ferrell's squads have posted a 106-83 record, set the top two program marks for wins (27 in 2012-13; 21 in 2014-15) and reached the post season four-straight years with WNIT appearances (2013-15). The Tigers advanced to the second round in 2012 and the third round in 2013.
A guard on the Tigers for two seasons, Ferrell was team captain in each season at Pacific. She played point guard for the Tigers, running the offense for the team as an extension of the coaching staff. One of the top point guards in the Big West during her two seasons at Pacific, Amy finished her career with one All-Big West selection, earning the honor as a junior as she earned honorable mention honors.
In her first year at Pacific, Ferrell led a Tiger attack that ranked No. 1 in the Big West, scoring 69.2 points per game. With Ferrell at the point, the Tigers ranked No. 3 in shooting percentage at .409 and No. 4 in assists 13.86 per game with Amy dishing out 3.41 assists per game.
As a senior, Ferrell and the Tigers' finished the year second in the conference in scoring at 64.0 points per game while Amy posted 3.80 assists per game, a mark good enough for third in the Big West. Prior to Pacific, Amy played two seasons for Coach Roberts at Chico State, where she led the Wildcats to two straight Division II NCAA tournament appearances, including a Final Four appearance and a school record 14 consecutive wins as the Wildcats' starting point guard her sophomore year in 2006. During that season, Amy averaged 9.8 points per game while dishing out 3.4 assists per contest.
She graduated in 2009 with a degree in sport management from Pacific and interned for University of the Pacific's Vice President for External Affairs, Ted Leland, who is now also Pacific's Athletic Director. She also interned in the Stanford Compliance department.
She completed her master's in sport management at Pacific in 2013.
In the summer of 2015, she married Pacific men's soccer assistant coach Jordan Ferrell.
