Biography
2012-13 (Junior):
Simkovic earned a pair of NCAA qualification times at the 2013 MPSF Championships, placing fifth in the 200 IM (1:48.47) and seventh in the 200 Back (1:46.70). He also took ninth in the 400 IM (3:55.92) to round out a stellar showing at the championships. At the Pacific Invite, he placed second in the 400 IM (4:04.74), sixth in the 200 Back (1:52.63) and 10th in the 200 IM (1:55.52). The UNLV Winter Invite saw Simkovic win the 200 Back (1:48.42) while placing second in both the 200 IM (1:49.73) and the 400 IM (3:59.93). Academically, Simkovic earned MPSF All-Academic honors.
2011-12 (Sophomore):
Already a force in the backstroke and individual medley events, Simkovic solidified his spot among the conference’s elite swimmers after earning First Team All-MPSF honors in the 200 Back and 400 IM and Second Team All-MPSF honors in the 200 IM in his sophomore season. He earned three NCAA “B” cut times at the 2012 MPSF Championships and set a new meet record in the 200 Back. He racked up six event titles on the year to go along with six runner-up finishes. He never placed outside of the top four in a dual meet and added a 10th-place finish in the 400 IM at the prestigious Arena Invitational. At the league championship meet in February, Simkovic won both the 400 IM and the 200 Back, clocking in at 3:52.28 in the 400 IM and 1:45.65 in the 200 Back. He added a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM behind a time of 1:48.52. All three times were tops on the team and were top-four times among all MPSF swimmers. Outside of the pool, Simkovic was recognized as an MPSF All-Academic Team selection.
2010-11 (Freshman):
Simkovic had a stellar first season at Pacific, earning First Team All-MPSF honors in the 200 IM, the 400 IM, and the 200 Back. He won the 200 Back title at the 2011 MPSF Championships in a record time of 1:46.51. Joining the Tigers midway through the season, Simkovic opened his collegiate career against Stanford on Jan. 8, taking first in the 400 IM (4:15.53), fourth in the 200 Back (1:54.28), and fifth in the 100 Back (52.36). He finished first in both the 200 Back (1:53.71) and the 400 IM (4:06.31) at the Tri Meet on Jan. 22. Simkovic added second- and third-place finishes in the 100 Back, a third-place finish in the 200 Back, and a runner-up showing in the 200 IM to his first-year resume.
High School:
Simkovic prepped at Bundesgymnasium Wien IX Wasagasse in Vienna, Austria. In 2008, he finished fifth in the 200 Back at the European Junior Championships. Simkovic owns Slovakian junior records in both the 200 IM and the 400 IM.
Personal:
Simkovic was born in Vienna, Austria, and is the son of Ingrid and Juraj Simkovic. He has a younger brother. A business administration major with a concentration on finance, Simkovic lists his hobbies as listening to music and skiing.
