Biography
2012-13(Junior):
In his third year at Pacific, Carnes took 35th in the 100 Free(46.51) and 40th in the 50 Free (21.29) at the 2013 MPSFChampionships. He placed seventh in the 50 Free (21.77) at thePacific Invite while the UNLV Winter Invite saw Carnes finishseventh in the 100 Free (46.67) and 11th in the 50 Free(21.37).
2011-12 (Sophomore):
Returning for his sophomore season, Carnes continued tobolster the Tigers’ freestyle relays while specializing inthe distance freestyle events. He paced his 200 Free and 400 Freerelay teams to a pair of top-five finishes versus conference foesSeattle and CSU Bakersfield. He added a third fifth-place finishagainst UC Santa Barbara, also in the 200 Free. Individually,Carnes set his season-best time in the 50 Free at the 2012 MPSFChampionships, clocking in at 21.24. The mark was good for seventhon the team.
2010-11 (Freshman):
In his first year at Pacific, Carnes provided depth forthe Tigers as a freestyle relay specialist. He led his relay groupto a fifth-place finish in the 200 Free against Fresno Pacific andUC Santa Cruz and added a pair of top-10 finishes in two differentrelay events against Loyola Marymount, CSU Bakersfield andSeattle.
High School:
Carnes graduated from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta,Calif., where he earned four letters in swimming. He was given histeam’s MVP Award after the 2006-07 and 2009-10 seasons whileearning all-league and All-America honors his final two seasons.Additionally, Carnes was named his team’s captain as asenior.
Personal:
Carnes was born in Glendale, Calif., and is the son of Mary andChris Carnes. He has an older brother Nick. A civil engineeringmajor, Carnes enjoys snowboarding in his free time.
