John Cook was named the head coach of the Pacific golf program on June 9, 2015, after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Stanislaus State. The 2025-26 season is his 11th as the Tiger head coach.

During the 2024-25 season, Cook was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, playing a pivotal role in guiding the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament berth at the Urbana Regional since the 2012-13 season. The Tigers won two team tournament titles (2024 The Goat and the Leadership & Golf Collegiate Championship) and six top three finishes. Cook aided Carlos Astiazaran in his performance on the course where he earned a scoring average of 69.3 across 36 rounds, noting the lowest mark in Pacific history. Astiazaran was named WCC Co-Player of the Year for his outstanding performance in his second year.

Throughout the years at the helm, Cook has led the Tigers to multiple top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the 2017 West Coast Conference Championships. Cook has also coached multiple athletes to WCC All-Academic honors and saw current Maverick Pavletich and former team member Austin Fox compete in the U.S. Amateur Open.

In the 2023-24 campaign, the Tigers put together a successful season with five top-10 finishes. Pacific recorded two top-four finishes, one at the 2023 Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno and another at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix. Cook guided one of his rising golfers in Carlos Astiazaran, who recorded a team-low 71.4 stroke average, which is the second-lowest stroke average in school history.

In the 2022-23 campaign, the Tigers had a pair of top 10 finishes. Pacific finished seventh of 15 teams in the Ram Masters Invitational at the Fort Collins Country Club in Colorado to open the season. In the spring, Pacific finished eighth of 16 teams at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix. 

In the 2021-22 season, Cook led the Tigers as the team set the tone early in the season, finishing top 10 in the season's first two tournaments. At the Ram Masters Invitational, the team earned a second-place finish and then finished fifth at the Nick Watney Invitational the following week. The team earned three other top-10 finishes during the regular season, highlighted by placing ninth out of 23 teams at the Grand Canyon Invitational. 

Cook also played an important role in the planning and construction of the Walter Chang Golf and Learning Center that's located at The Reserve at Spanos Park. Finished in February of 2020, the state-of-the-art facility is 4,200 total square feet and features coaches offices, a conference room, locker rooms, an alumni locker room, a kitchen, and three hitting bays with top-of-the-line swing analysis technology.

Before his time at Pacific, Cook led Stanislaus to back-to-back California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in 2013-14 and 2014-15 while advancing to the NCAA Division II Regionals all seven seasons with four appearances in the NCAA Championship, including reaching the semifinals in 2012. Cook earned CCAA Coach of the Year honors in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015, and was also named the West Region Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Association of America in 2009.

A native of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Cooke was a student-athlete at Stanislaus from 1990 to 1993 before finishing his collegiate career at Boise State, where he earned a business management degree in 1995. Following his collegiate playing career, Cook was named assistant coach at Boise State and took over as head coach after one season.

Cook was a professional golfer playing in regional and national mini-tour tournaments. He also worked for Titleist as a sales and service consultant and as an instructor at the John Jacobs Golf School at Stevenson Ranch Golf Course.
