Biography

2017 (Freshman):
Started all 19 games for Pacific as a true freshman. Logged 108 saves in 1357:07 minutes of play and finished with a record of 10-9 overall. Carried a 2.58 goals against average and save percentage of .684. Recorded a save in each of her appearances for the Orange and Black. Made six saves in her first start of the year versus Michigan State (Aug. 25). Also made 14 saves against No. 2 UConn (Sept. 8) and a career-high 20 saves against No. 8 Boston College (Sept. 24). Had 10 games in which she recorded five or more saves. Made five saves in the American East Conference Semifinal against No. 18 Stanford (Nov. 4). 

High School: van Tonder attended Pretoria High School for Girls in Pretoria South Africa where she was awarded Goalkeeper of the year and Hockey player of the year in 2015.

Personal: A native of Pretoria, South Africa, Marlise is the daughter of Andre and Tertia. She has two sisters, Louise and Chantelle. During her time at Pacific, Marlise plans to study mechanical engineering. Aside from playing field hockey, Marlise enjoys baking and listening to music.
