General Academic Tutoring Center Fall 2018 Schedule

 

TUTOR/STUDY HALL MONITOR

Duties:

  • Ensure academic integrity by following NCAA bylaws and University of the Pacific Tiger Lore.
  • Set up study hall computer at 6:00pm.
  • Shut down study hall computer at 9:00pm.
  • Monitor study hall log-in computer throughout the evening.
  • Check on student-athletes in the library every 30 minutes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter.
  • Focus on specific subject content when working with students (Mathematics, Business, or Sciences).
  • Answer questions and help find answers.
  • Positively reinforce understanding of material.
  • Help student-athletes develop strategies for learning content.
  • Guide student-athletes to become independent learners.
  • Maintain an atmosphere in study hall that is conducive to learning.

Meetings:

  • Set up with Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services and/or drop-in appointments during study hall hours (Sunday-Thursday from 6-9pm).
  • Meet with student-athletes in Pacific Library Café.

Documentation:

  • Must email Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services an electronic Tutor/Study Hall Monitor Report Form before leaving study hall.
  • Complete and submit yellow timesheet two times a month.

Requirements:

  • Participate in Athletics Training on Friday of the first week of school (2-3 hours).
  • Complete READ 86, Tutoring Strategies course with a B+ or higher during the first year of employment.
  • Consistently meet appointment schedule and be on time for study hall.
    • Notify Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services of any cancellations and/or plans for rescheduling by email (dkelly1@pacific.edu) and/or Phone (209.946.2513).
  • Follow all NCAA and University of the Pacific policies.
  • Perform duties in a professional manner.
  • Maintain communication with Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services.
  • Failure to perform duties as described and/or to meet appointments may result in dismissal.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Pay Rate:

  • Starting: $12.00 per hour.  Raises based on performance evaluation at the end of each academic year.

Tutor/Study Hall Monitor Form

STUDENT-ATHLETE MENTOR

Duties:

  • Ensure academic integrity by following NCAA bylaws and University of the Pacific Tiger Lore.
  • Develop long-term plan using semester calendar, syllabi and supplemental class documents.
  • Review and update long-term plan.
  • Develop and monitor weekly plan.
  • Ensure student-athlete is attending tutoring sessions, visiting the writing center, meeting with professors, etc.
  • Review class notes, make sure books are annotated and highlighted.
  • Identify needs of student-athlete.
  • Determine technology needs.
  • Maintain notebook (student-athlete and mentor).
  • Communicate with Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services about student-athletes’ needs and progress.

Meetings:

  • One-on-one thirty minute meeting with mentee’s weekly or biweekly.
  • Meet with multiple student-athletes during team study hall.
  • Monthly meeting with Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services.

Documentation:

  • Complete and submit timesheet two times a month.
  • Record sessions on timesheet.
  • Record notes on Academic Meeting Report Form.
  • Submit Tutor Report Form to Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services after each session.
  • Assist mentee in completing Weekly Plan during your meeting.
  • Check and have mentee update Weekly Plan during your meeting.
  • Enter student-athletes attendance and times.
  • Enter notes for anything needing immediate attention (unprepared, missing materials, etc.).
  • Complete all paperwork required by Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Services.

Requirements:

  • Failure to perform duties as described and/or failure to meet appointments may result in dismissal.

  • Starting: $13.00 per hour.  Raises based on performance evaluation at the end of each academic year.
