GAMBLING

Sports wagering has the potential to undermine the integrity of sports contests and jeopardizes the welfare of student-athletes and the intercollegiate athletics community. The NCAA membership has adopted specific rules prohibiting athletic department staff members and student-athletes from engaging in gambling activities as they related to intercollegiate or professional sporting events.

A student-athlete, coach and/or employee of Athletic Department shall not knowingly:

  • Provide information to individuals involved in organized gambling activities concerning intercollegiate athletics competition;
  • Solicit a bet on any intercollegiate or professional athletics contests;
  • Accept a bet on any team representing Pacific;
  • Solicit or accept a bet on any intercollegiate or professional competition or practice for any item (e.g., cash, T-shirt, dinner) that has tangible value;
  • Participates in any gambling activity that involves intercollegiate or professional athletics through the Internet, a bookmaker, or a parlay card.

The NCAA defines a wager as putting something at risk – such as an entry fee or wager (including dinner or a t-shirt) – in return for the opportunity to win something in return. The value of the wager does not matter. This includes Super Bowl squares, March Madness brackets, fantasy leagues, online bets, betting app, parlay cards and prop bets.

Furthermore, in accordance with NCAA Policies:

  • A student-athlete who is involved in sports wagering on the student-athlete’s institution shall permanently lose all remaining regular-season and postseason eligibility in all sports.
  • A student-athlete who is involved in any sports wagering activity that involves intercollegiate athletics or professional athletics, through the Internet, a bookmaker or a parlay card, shall be ineligible for all regular-season and postseason competition for a minimum of one year.

Please do not ask student-athletes or athletic department staff members to participate in these activities.
