Redshirt Junior(2013):
Returning to the field after missing the majority of theprevious season, Haberman transitioned into a starting pitchingrole. He led the team with 11 starts and appeared in 17 games. Onthe year, Haberman posted a 2-6 record witha 4.68 ERA with ateam-high 75.0 innings pitched. He posted a team-best 50strikeouts. He grabbed wins against Long Beach State (Apr. 5) witha one-run, six-inning outing against against UC Santa Barbara (May18) giving up tow runs on six hits in 7.1 innings. His best outingcame against UC Davis on May 10 when he threw 8.0 innings ofshutout ball, scattering seven hits in a no-decision.
Junior (2012):
Appeared in eight total games before redshirting due to injury. Hit.455 in six games at the plate, going 9-for-20 with two doubles andthree runs batted in. Had three multi-hit games in six games as abatter at first base and designated hitter. Went 4-for-5 atStanford with a pair of runs batted in. On the mound, had a 5.74ERA in three starts, logging 15.2 innings. Had an 0-0 record and a3.38 ERA through his first two starts before suffering his injuryand tried to make one more start (a loss at Kansas State). AgainstSan Diego State, Haberman went 7.1 innings on the mound with ninestrikeouts and two earned runs allowed and drove in a run at theplate with a 2-for-4 night, but took a no decision.
2011(Sophomore):
Split time between designated hitter and pitcher, appearing in 32games on offense, including 16 starts, while tossing 12 innings inseven appearances on the mound. At the plate, Haberman hit .266with five doubles in 64 at bats. Scored six runs and drove inanother six. Went four-for-10 in a three-game series against Nevadawith a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Delivered a two-runpinch-hit single at USC on March 19. Added a pinch-hit RBI doubleon April 2 against Long Beach State. Drove in two in a 1-for-2 daywith a walk against UC Riverside on April 9. On the mound, Habermanposted four scorless outings, striking out the side against CalState Northridge on April 21 in a one-inning stint; fanning one intwo innings of shutout ball at Santa Clara on April 26; Allowing noearned runs in one-inning appearances against UC Davis (May 6) andCal Poly (May 22).
2010 (Freshman):
In his first season of Division I play John opened the season asone of Pacific’s most consistent hitters, batting .400 orbetter in his first 24 games played. Haberman appeared in 42 games,making 39 starts as the Tigers’ designated hitter. To goalong with his .359 OBP and his .404 slugging percentage, Habermanhit an impressive .321 in 156 at-bats in 2010. In addition to hisinvaluable service at the plate, Haberman also compiled 20.1innings as a pitcher, striking out 17 and walking 12. Haberman hadtwo four-hit games in 2010. He went 4-for-5 with three RBI and twodoubles on March 26 at San Jose State, as well as 4-for-5 plateappearance with two doubles on April 10 against UC Riverside. Ashis play sparkled throughout the season, John began raking inawards both from the Big West Conference and also around thecountry. For his success both on the mound and at the plate againstNo. 19 Stanford and San Jose State, Haberman became the first Tigerin 2010 to be named as one of 15 weekly CollegeBaseball360.comPrimetime Players the week ending April 1. Against the Spartans onMarch 28, Haberman drove in all three of Pacific’s runsduring their 3-2 victory in extra innings, including the run in thebottom of the ninth to push the game into extras, and his bat alsoproduced the game-tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 11th.On the mound against No. 19 Stanford on March 23, Haberman went onto record his first career victory. That week John was also namedPacific’s first Big West Pitcher of the Week in 2010.
High School:
Haberman graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Stockton,Calif., in 2009. As a senior John helped his team to a 24-10overall record, as the Rams finished second in the Sac-JoaquinSection. During his senior year Haberman hit an astounding .462with a .558 OBP and a .615 slugging percentage. John tallied 42hits and 28 RBI at the plate and recorded a .963 fieldingpercentage. On the hill John compiled a 2.14 ERA over 59 innings,including 59 strikeouts. During his junior campaign in 2008, Johnwas 6-2 with two saves and a 3.10 ERA in 49.2 innings of work.Haberman allowed just one home run and one triple and held opposinghitters to a paltry .228 batting average. John finished the seasonwith 46 strikeouts and only 20 walks. His efforts on the mound ledSt. Mary’s to a 21-12 record in 2008.
Personal:
John Haberman was born in Stockton, Calif., and is the son of JohnHaberman and Sandra Medina-Haberman. He has one older sister,Megan. Haberman is a social science major with plans to teach orcoach baseball after graduating.
