RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf program got off to a roaring start in its season opener, closing the first round in the top spot and culminating to a tie for a ninth-place finish on Tuesday at the Vuori Invitational, hosted by San Diego at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club.

The Tigers (+29) carded a tournament-low two-under par in the opening 18 holes before eventually closing out the 12-team field in the top ten of the team leaderboard alongside Tulsa. Arkansas claimed the tournament title with an even par, followed by Colorado and Southern California. San Diego State's Brayden Forte won as the top individual.

Pacific saw a nice debut performance in the form of junior Will Tanaka, who registered a two-day total of an even par and a top five placement on the individual leaderboard. Tanaka was one of nine golfers in the entire field to record a score of even par or better.

Junior Felix Bouchard, junior Guillaume Paquette, junior Bradley Smolinski and freshman Aiden Tiet all were penciled into the lineup for Pacific across the Vuori Invitational. Bouchard had carded a one-under par after the opening round, which aided the Tigers in holding that first place spot after the first 18 holes.

Junior Ken Gao was the lone Tiger to compete as an individual in the San Diego-hosted event.

Up next, the Tigers will head north in the CDA National Reserve Invitational, hosted by Eastern Washington in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
