STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific found itself on the wrong side of a tough day offensively, falling 19-6 to third ranked Stanford Sunday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
The Tigers (3-4) were outshot on the afternoon 33-24 by the Cardinal (5-0), but got multi-goal efforts from juniors
Yoav Rendler and
Ori Buzaglo to pace the team. Sophomore
Borisz Kasa-Gal and freshman
Gabor Holl rounded out scoring for the Tigers.
As a team, Pacific was on the back foot almost immediately, conceding a four goal Stanford run in the first quarter before Rendler and Kasa-Gal cut the deficit in half, only for Stanford to respond with three straight. The defining run of the game came right before the half when Stanford scored the first of nine consecutive goals that spanned from one second before halftime until ten seconds remaining in the match when Buzaglo got his second goal.
Sophomore goalie
Gergely Kiss was able to convert six save attempts. One area the Tigers excelled at during the match was steals, outdoing Stanford 6-1. Rendler, alongside freshman
Enzo Fernandez, paced the team with two steals apiece while Kasa-Gal and sophomore
Brody Biedermann each contributed one.
The team is off until September 25 when they travel down to SoCal for the first of two matches. On the 25th the team meets Long Beach State before taking on USC two days later.
