MALIBU, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program looks to right the ship as a three-game series at Pepperdine is on deck, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. from Eddy D. Field Stadium.
The Tigers (10-21, 2-7 WCC) trek to the Southern California coast for their fourth West Coast Conference series of the season, locking horns with the Waves (10-22, 5-4 WCC).
Through nine conference games, junior
Levi Sotomayor has been a beacon of light for Pacific, hitting a conference-best .550 in that stretch, including his first career home run as a Tiger last series at Saint Mary's. Sotomayor also has five runs and five RBIs during that span.
Graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan has been a consistent bat all year long for the Tigers. The native of Pleasanton, California is hitting .343 during WCC action with a team-leading ten RBIs amidst league play. O'Sullivan's RBI count in WCC games stands third in the conference.
Despite a slow start to conference play, redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr leads the Tigers in overall batting average with a .292 clip, accompanied by a team-best five big flies and 14 RBIs.
Starting pitching has found success in the forms of redshirt junior
Garret Plata and redshirt junior
Zach Todd. The Pacific pair have each pitched at least 35 innings this season with over 35 strikeouts, joining Gonzaga and Seattle as the only WCC schools to have at least two starting pitchers have maintain over a strikeout per inning.
Plata has been sharp all year long, recording four straight starts of at least five innings and maintaining a 1.78 earned run average that places second in the WCC.
Pepperdine has WCC series wins over Saint Mary's and San Diego to begin their conference slate before dropping two of three last week at Gonzaga. The Waves are 6-9 at Eddy. D. Field Stadium and already have as many home wins as they had last season when they went 6-21 at home.
A pair of Waves have led the charge offensively with James Dell'Amico and Daniel Patterson hovering around the .300 mark. Patterson has home run pop as well, hitting eight roundtrippers on the year, which puts him in a tie for second in the conference leaderboard.
Casey Euper has been Pepperdine's most consistent arm, sporting a 2.94 earned run average in 33.2 innings and ranking fifth in the conference. Tommy Scavone is tied for the team lead in starts for the Waves with a team-high 43.1 innings of work.
The series history has been pretty split even (14-18 since 2014) in recent days between Pacific and Pepperdine. Last year, the Tigers took two of three from the Waves at Klein Family Field. Pacific seeks its first road series win in Malibu, California since 2014 where the Tigers picked up a pair of one-run victories during the final two games of the series.
All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with a Friday 3 p.m. first pitch, a Saturday 2 p.m. first pitch and a Sunday 1 p.m. first pitch.
