SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Redshirt junior Garret Plata earned Rawlings West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Plata, a native of San Jose, California, pitched six shutout innings in Sunday's 7-1 win over Santa Clara, leading to a series sweep over the Broncos and the first WCC sweep of the season for the Tigers.

Hurling his third consecutive quality start of conference play, Plata allowed no runs on two hits and one walk with six strikeouts – tied for the second-most strikeouts Plata has thrown in a conference start this year.

Sunday's start was the second time this year Plata has thrown a zero on his final line, first doing so in 4.1 innings at Grand Canyon on February 28. The southpaw has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start this season.

In the month of April, Plata owns a 2-1 record with a 1.89 earned run average with 16 strikeouts in 19.0 innings. On the season, Plata has impressed as one of the conference's top pitchers, leading the WCC in ERA (1.79), which is tied for the tenth-best in the country. His 5.89 hits allowed per nine inning are ranked 23rd nationally.

This is the first WCC weekly award for Plata and second overall by the Tigers. Redshirt sophomore Robert Orr was named WCC Player of the Week on March 9. Plata becomes the first Pacific pitcher to garner a WCC Pitcher of the Week award since Ryan Shreve on April 15, 2019. Shreve threw the program's fourth no-hitter in program history to secure a sweep of Santa Clara on the road.

Plata and the Tigers complete their four-game homestand against San Jose State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Klein Family Field before resuming the WCC slate at San Francisco on Friday from the Hilltop. The Tigers defeated the Spartans by an 11-5 margin on March 3 at Excite Ballpark. Forecasted weather conditions may impact Tuesday's game, so make sure to follow Pacific social media channels and the Pacific athletics website for all updates.
