Tandy’s Career Day Ignites Pacific’s Offense Over Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – Down to the final out, the Pacific baseball program rallied and secured an 8-7 series-opening victory over Pepperdine on Friday afternoon from Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Senior Jake Tandy turned in a career day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBIs, a two-run home run and a go-ahead two-run single that put the Tigers (11-21, 3-7 WCC) on top of the Waves (10-23, 5-5 WCC).

Tandy is the third Tiger to record six RBIs in a single game since Pacific rejoined the West Coast Conference in 2014, joining Ben Nemivant in 2023 at New Mexico State, Chaz Myers in 2022 against LMU.

Redshirt sophomore Robert Orr set the table from the lead-off spot and sparked the offense as well, collecting a 3-for-5 performance and scoring career-high three runs, including the game-tying run in the ninth inning.

Zach Todd had a solid outing in his fourth conference and eighth start of the season, providing length with 5.1 innings of work alongside one strikeout. Freshman Connor Raridan (2-1) earned his second victory of the season with a trio of strikeouts while junior Regan Carter collected his second career save and first since Feb. 23, 2025, against South Dakota State.

Tandy started the scoring with his first home run of the season, bringing home Orr for a two-run spot in the top of the fourth. Pepperdine answered with a two-run rally to even the score after four.

Senior Grant MacArthur gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead momentarily in the sixth before the Waves responded for five to earn their first lead of the afternoon at 7-3.

Pacific would not go away quietly, utilizing a three-run rally in the top of the seventh capped by a two-run single by Tandy to cut the deficit to 7-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Waves threatened for insurance runs with runners on the corners and no outs, but Raridan kept his composure and struck out the side.

After two quick outs to start Pacific's ninth, Orr laced a two-out single to left field and graduate student Brendan O'Sullivan kept the line moving reaching on an error, setting up Tandy's deliverance of the eventual game-winner.

The Tigers and the Waves will do battle in game two of the WCC series tomorrow with a 2 p.m. first pitch from Eddy D. Field Stadium.
