STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific's homestand rolls on, hosting California on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and then welcomes Northern Colorado to Bill Simoni Field for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday as part of the WCC/Big Sky Challenge.
The team is hosting California (8-17) for the first time since 2021 and searching for the first series win since 2011 – which did come at Bill Simoni Field in a 13-2 romp over the Golden Bears.
In last season's meeting, sophomore
Alexa Lewis took the circle and got tagged for only two earned runs. A season later, the sophomore has emerged as one of Pacific's (8-16) more prolific arms.
Through eight appearances Lewis has struck out a team leading 34 batters, putting her on pace to finish the season with 77 punchouts – which would be the highest single season total since Hailey Reed's 113 during the 2019 season. When she isn't missing bats, she has still been tough to score on with a team best 2.79 ERA so far and limiting opposing batters to a .255 average.
Conference wide she has been one of the strongest arms - ranking fifth in ERA, seventh in strikeouts and second in strikeouts per seven innings.
Tuesday's game will mark the 12th consecutive season Pacific has hosted a power four team.
Over the weekend, the series with Northern Colorado is the first time matching up with the Bears (12-14) since 2022. In that 2022 series, UNC took two of three from the Tigers in Stockton.
Offensively the top of the Pacific order continues to produce as each of redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre, junior
Zaedi Tagalog and senior
Allie Capello are hitting over .300. As such, the trio lead the team in hits in that order and have been efficient coming around to score when they do get on – leading the team in runs scored, again in that order.
Silvestre in particular has swung a strong bat as she enters the week ranked third nationally in doubles and leads the WCC and ranks ninth in runs scored.
One student-athlete to watch is junior
Bailey Boetjer, Pacific's leader in RBIs. The junior has 16 so far this season and has not gone more than four games without an RBI since early February.
First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Sunday's series finale is set for noon. All four games will be shown on ESPN+.
