STOCKTON, Calif. – Led by graduate
Cindy Ung and junior
Indiya McLeod, the Tigers nearly notched a victory over Illinois State, but faltered during the singles portion and was defeated 4-3 on Saturday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
Both Ung and McLeod earned two points for the Tigers (3-9), each helping to secure the doubles point and then winning their singles matches. In the singles half of the match, Ung turned a first set loss into a dominating win taking the next two sets a combined 12-1 on court three. Meanwhile, McLeod rolled to a straight set win on court one to secure her second point of the match.
During the doubles half of the match, the former was paired up with junior
Leyanne Hirota on court two and posted a comfortable 6-2 win while the latter joined up with fellow junior
Rayna Sugai and pulled out a 7-5 win. On doubles court three, freshman
Pauline Lerminiaux and junior
Nahreen Cheam got a 7-5 win to complete Pacific's doubles sweep of the Redbirds (8-3).
Needing just one more point to secure the win, the Tigers were unable to win on courts two, four, five and six.
The team now has a quick turnaround, heading to Tennessee to take on Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro on Monday before concluding the quick trip with a neutral site match versus Chicago State on Tuesday.
