SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific men's and women's track and field program began its 2026 outdoor season on Friday at the Golden Gate Track Fest, hosted by San Francisco State from Cox Stadium.
The Tigers were among the several colleges competing at the one-day meet, trailing De Anza, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's on the men's side with 58 points, and Saint Mary's and Santa Clara on the women's side with 47 points.
Highlighting the day for Pacific was sophomore
Angelina Lione who posted a runner-up finish in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:35.62, but also set a school record in the event, surpassing the previous best mark of 4:44.18 by
Emily Wernli in 2025.
In the same event on the men's side, junior
Samuel Lanham was established a Pacific record with a time of 3:59.06. Lanham scored four team points with his fifth place nod in the 1,500-meter run.
Senior
Jacob Russell finished right behind Lanham, just eclipsing the four-minute mark with a time of 4:00.02. Sophomore
Kohl Sanders also placed top eight in the event, coming in at 4:01.48 for a pair of points.
In the 400-meter dash, senior
Alondra Lopez was the runner-up in the only heat with a time of 1:06.63.
Freshman
Winisha Steele Michael also collected a runner-up position in the 100-meter dash, earning a time of 12.80. Her time is now second all-time in program history behind Naomi Nunis' 12.43 run in 2018 at the Bulldog Invitational. Steele Michael also finished third in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.32.
Sophomore
Jonathan Jones started his outdoor season strong with a 11.51 in the men's 100-meter dash for sixth place.
Freshman
Daphne Iosua concluded the day in the women's 3k steeplechase with a third-place positioning, coming in at 11:22.62, which is the second fastest in Pacific history and fastest since Lindsay Wourms in 2016 at the San Francisco Distance Carnival.
Junior
Logan Evans closed out the Pacific men's scoring with a runner-up nod in the men's 3k steeplechase, crossing the line at 9:27.80.
Up next, the Tigers will have two weeks to prepare for the Aggie Open, hosted by UC Davis from Friday, March 20 to Saturday, March 21.
