Softball Readies for Conference Opening Series

MORAGA, Calif. – The Pacific softball program rides into Moraga to take on Saint Mary's in the first series of conference play from Friday to Sunday, looking to build off last weekend's successes.

The Pacific (12-20) bats came alive during the last series totaling 31 runs, the most in a three-game series since rejoining the WCC. Driving the offense during that explosion was senior Allie Capello who logged seven hits, five runs scored, seven RBIs, five doubles and a homerun and tied multiple single game school records in Sunday's win.

However, on the season multiple Tigers are excelling on the national stage. Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre is in the midst of a top-ten season nationally in doubles and hit-by-pitches. Entering the weekend with 13 doubles, she ranks sixth in the country and trails by only four doubles for the national lead.

Going back to the 2016-17 season when total doubles were first tracked, Pacific has never had a student-athlete rank in the top-50 in the country in total doubles. Combined with Capello's 12 doubles on the season and the Tigers are one of two teams in the country with multiple student-athletes ranking inside the top-20 for total doubles.

The redshirt senior has also been adept at drawing hit-by-pitches this season, ranking eighth nationally at 13 HBPs – only one other student-athlete in the WCC has been hit double digit times (Sam Buckley of Saint Mary's with 11).

Within the program, Silvestre's next double will enter her in the single season record book for the second time and needs two doubles to tie her output from last season. Meanwhile her hit-by-pitches this season already ranks fourth all-time and needs four more HBPs to claim the third-place spot for herself.

Junior Zaedi Tagalog recently became the fifth Tiger this century with four or more triples in a season and ranks 13th in the country. With her next triple, she would join Estee Okumura (2002) as the only Tigers this century with five or more triples in a season – should Tagalog reach a sixth triple she would tie for Pacific's single season record.

On the other side of the diamond, sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom is proving a formidable arm out of the bullpen with three saves already this season – which ties for sixth in the single season record book. Outside of the program, Dahlstrom ranks 11th nationally and tied for the conference lead.

Before getting to Dahlstrom, opposing batters have had to contend with sophomore Alexa Lewis, who is fresh off spinning her first collegiate complete game shutout in game one of the Montana series.
On the season, Lewis is the team leader in wins (5), ERA (3.14) and strikeouts (53).

Looking at the series against Saint Mary's (21-10), the Tigers are searching for the first series win over the Gaels since 2018, which incidentally came in Moraga. Unlike previous years, the series will now be played over three days with a single game Friday, Saturday, and Sunday – rather than the traditional model of doubleheader Saturday and single game Sunday.

First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. and all three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
