RENO, Nev. – Competing in its first-ever indoor conference championships, the Pacific men's and women's track and field program struck a chord with an individual champion at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Track & Field Championships, hosted by Nevada at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Highlighting the Tigers' performance across the two-day conference meet, junior
Jack Weber was crowned champion in the men's mile with a time of 4:15.65, outpacing the next runner by over three seconds. Weber garnered ten total team points for Pacific, who ultimately earned seventh place on the men's side and 13th place on the women's side.
Sophomore
Angelina Lione earned a team point toward the Tigers when she raced the eighth fastest women's 5k in Reno, clocking in at 17:07.81. Junior
Valeria Espinoza also competed in that event, coming in at 18:27.28.
The Tigers earned a pair of points in the men's 4k distance medley relay as Weber, junior
Amir Brooks, senior
Jacob Russell and fifth year
Andre Souza competed as the Pacific quartet.
Junior
Samuel Lanham recorded a top 20 finish in the men's 3k with a time of 8:46.22 while Lione was one spot shy of earning team points in the women's 3k, coming in ninth place at 10:01.05.
The final three team points toward the Pacific men came from the men's 4x400 relay where the Tigers earned a time of 3:34.65. Weber played an instrumental role in that relay event.
In the field events from Sunday, senior
Serena Yee competed in the women's high jump while sophomore
Jonathan Jones registered 6.47 meters in the men's long jump, which was .02 meters off a personal best.
Pacific looks ahead to the outdoor season of its track and field schedule, beginning this week at the Golden Gate Track Fest, hosted by San Francisco State at Cox Stadium on Friday, March 6.
