STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program prepares for the gauntlet of West Coast Conference Play, starting with a three-game series against Seattle on Friday at 6 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (8-12) will see the newly minted conference foe Redhawks (3-13) as the first of nine WCC series this season, looking to get off league play on the right foot.
Pacific's prowess offensively has been led by redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr, who is hitting .348 with a team-best four home runs and 13 RBIs. Orr has been dynamic on defense as well, committing only just one error through the first 20 games.
Senior
Jake Tandy complements the offense at the heart of the order, slashing .273 while ranking second on the Tigers with 12 RBIs and five extra-base hits.
Last year during WCC action, sophomore
Diego Davis hit .305 with nine runs scored. The Stockton, California native has started the most at catcher this season.
On the pitching front, Pacific's pair of redshirt junior
Zach Todd and redshirt junior
Garret Plata has been exceptional, combining for a 2-0 record with 57 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work. Both starters have ERAs under three with Plata leading the way at 0.98. Redshirt junior
Carson Revay has been called upon in key reliever situations, sporting a 2-0 record with a 2.29 earned run average and three saves. Revay's trio of saves stand second in the WCC.
Seattle secured just three wins during non-conference play with a win at Washington and a couple at home (Holy Cross and Jackson State). Their most recent defeat came to hands of the Huskies last Tuesday in Seattle before their last two against Central Washington were canceled due to weather.
The Redhawks offense has been paced by Kenny Rhein with his .327 batting average. Peyton Knowles represents a power threat in their lineup with a pair of big flies and nine RBIs. As a team, Seattle owns a 7.75 earned run average with all three of their projected weekend starters holding six ERAS or higher.
The Tigers and Redhawks meet for the first time as conference foes and will greet each other for the 26th, 27th and 28th time in the head-to-head match-up. Last year, the two programs met up north where the home team took two of three. During that meeting last year, junior
Braeden Schnabel hit his first career home run as a grand slam. Schnabel went 4-for-11 with a pair of home runs and six RBIs in that series. Seattle and Pacific meet in Stockton for the first time in a series since 2019 and the Tigers took the first two in that showdown.
The series will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a first pitch on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Dennis Ackerman will be on the call.
