Baseball Welcomes Winthrop for First All-Time Meeting Tuesday

STOCKTON, Calif. – In its final tune-up before West Coast Conference play, the Pacific baseball program faces Winthrop for a midweek match-up on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (8-11) are coming off a four-game split last week against Sacramento State, looking to continue its ten-game homestand on a high note against the Eagles (14-6).

Leading the charge for the Tigers has been the bat of redshirt sophomore Robert Orr and his team-high .364 clip. Named WCC Player of the Week prior to last week's series with the Hornets, Orr's batting average currently ranks eighth in the WCC, while his four home runs are tied for fifth in the conference.

Senior Jake Tandy swung a hot bat against last week's crosstown foe, going 4-for-11 across the four games with two runs and two RBIs. Tandy raised his batting average to .288 in the process as he rides a three-game on-base streak into Tuesday.

Looking at on-base streaks by the Tigers, junior Braeden Schnabel holds the longest current one at nine games in a row. In that small sample size, Schnabel obtains a .348 batting average with five runs and three RBIs.

The pitching front for the Tigers has been effective in one-run ball games this year, holding close to opponents in those contests with a 5-4 record. The Tigers are 2-1 in midweek games this year, including a 1-0 record at home in that instance against Sacramento State. As a team, Pacific's ERA is 6.26, accompanied by four saves, led by redshirt junior Carson Revay's trio of them.

The Eagles make the 2,700-mile journey across the country for the Tuesday tilt before taking on Sacramento State later on in the week. Winthrop has done some home cooking during the first half of the season, going 13-2 in their friendly confines of Founders Field. The Eagles are winless on the road this year with those games at then-No. 17 NC State and then-No.7 Auburn. In Big South action, Winthrop swept Radford at home to begin the conference campaign.

Corey Wouters leads the Eagles with a .382 clip, while Jaylen Hernandez has crushed the ball in 2026 with a team-best seven homers and 24 RBIs.

The Tigers and Eagles will meet for the first time ever on the diamond. Pacific has yet to play against a Big South school since rejoining the WCC in 2013.

Tuesday's game can be viewed live on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call for the broadcast.
