Four-Game Set Against Sacramento State Awaits Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program begins a four-game, home-and-home series against Sacramento State, starting on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. from John Smith Field.

The Tigers (6-9) will play the first two of the set at the state capital, followed by a pair at Klein Family Field on Saturday and Sunday afternoon against the Hornets (5-10).

Fresh off West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors announced Monday, redshirt sophomore Robert Orr looks to continue his hot hitting at the plate. The native of Vancouver, British Colombia boasts a team-high .436 with 11 runs, 11 RBIs and four home runs to his name.

Orr currently maintains an eight-game hitting streak. During that stretch, Orr is 17-for-33 (.515) with four home runs, which leads the Tigers. His four home runs are also tied for fourth in the WCC while his batting average represents the Tigers at No. 2 in the conference leaderboard.

Redshirt junior Zach Todd and redshirt junior Garret Plata are the two Pacific arms that have done the bulk of the work in the rotation. Plata holds a 0.68 earned run average in 13.1 innings with 24 strikeouts while Todd still manages a solid 3.15 earned run average in 20.0 innings with a team-best 25 strikeouts. As of Tuesday, Todd's 25 strikeouts are tied for third most in the WCC among qualified pitchers.

Sacramento State just wrapped up taking a road series from the No. 2 team in the country in LSU, winning the last two games in the set to make headlines there. Overall, the Hornets are 3-5 at home and 2-5 away from John Smith Field. Before tangoing with the Tigers this week, the Hornets will play a midweek contest against UMass Lowell on Tuesday.

Collectively, Sacramento State is hitting .206 with Luis Pimentel-Guerrero carrying the torch with a .294 clip. Erick Dessens leads the Hornets with a pair of home runs – one of which came against Pacific during its first meeting of the season back on February 25.

The Tigers ended up winning the first of five games against the Hornets at Klein Family Field when senior Rylan Evans hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to secure an 8-7 victory in the midweek clash. For the first two games of the set, Pacific seeks its first road victory at Sacramento State since March 29, 2022. The Tigers are 13-8 at home in the crosstown clash since 2006.

Wednesday and Friday's games will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. each day. Dennis Ackerman will be on the call for the home games in the series at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
