PHOENIX – The Pacific baseball program put together a strong offensive showing in the series finale, ultimately came up short in a 11-10 decision to Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon from Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark.
The Tigers (5-6) threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, but a game-ending double play turned by the Lopes (5-7) sealed the result and series for the home team.
The left side of the infield for Pacific did most of the damage offensively as redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr and senior
Rylan Evans combined for an 8-for-10 performance with two runs and five RBIs. Evans was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with five singles, marking the first five-hit game by a Tiger since Ben Nemivant recorded six hits on March 5, 2023, against New Mexico State.
Redshirt junior
Andrew Sloan crushed his first home run of the 2026 campaign – his first big fly since April 13, 2025, against California Baptist.
On the pitching side for Pacific,
Regan Carter made his third start of the season, going 1.1 innings before turning it over to the bullpen. Freshman
Maddox Moreno (0-1) pitched well in relief, going a career-long 4.1 innings and allowed three earned runs after retiring 11 straight Lopes to begin his afternoon. Moreno picked up four strikeouts in just his second appearance of the season.
The Tigers' offense jumped ahead early, going up 4-0 in the top of the first inning, capped by Orr's two-RBI double. The Lopes countered in the home half of the inning, making it a 4-3 ball game after one frame.
The floodgates continued to open as GCU hit a grand slam in the next inning to take a 7-4 lead.
After the Lopes scored one more in the third, the Tigers tallied the next five runs, courtesy of Sloan's two-run liftoff in the fourth and a three-run rally in the seventh, retaking the lead at 9-8.
GCU utilized a key three-run bottom of the eighth inning to draw ahead, 11-9.
Orr continued to have himself a day and series, knocking in another run in the top of the ninth. Pacific continued its rally, loading the bases with tying runner at third, but the Lopes escaped the jam with a double play to close the book on a 11-10 final.
The Tigers continue their road swing with a midweek visit to the Bay Area to face San Jose State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. from Excite Ballpark.
