Tigers Complete MPSF Championships with Another School Record

PHARR, Texas – The Pacific men's and women's swimming and diving program put a bow at its conference meet on Saturday at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the City of Pharr-PSJA Natatorium.

The Tigers earned 431 points on the women's side for eighth place out of the ten schools while the men secured 287 points for fifth place out of six schools across the four days. Northern Arizona claimed the conference title on the women's side while Air Force did the same on the men's side.

A school record was broken for a second time during the MPSF Championships as sophomore Freddie Cumming turned in an outstanding performance in the men's 200 yard breaststroke with a record-setting time of 1:57.84, passing the top time in that event previously by Yahav Shahaf in 2017 (1:58.26). Freshman Cruz Lopez finished right behind Cumming in that race, also beating the benchmark with a time of 1:58.20. The duo would combine for tenth and 11th place in that final to collect 13 points for Pacific's team total.

In the women's 1650 yard freestyle, sophomore Christina Agiomamitou put together a personal best performance with a time of 17:12.41, earning a top ten finish among the mile swimmers.

In the championship final of the men's 100 yard freestyle, sophomore Nate Rasmussen was .01 seconds off of reaching the podium but still collected a respectable fourth-place finish in that event with a time of 43.52 for 15 team points.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will rest, reset and refocus for the National Invitational Championships in Ocala, Florida from Thursday, March 12 to Saturday, March 14.
