SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Coming off a weekend featuring high octane offense, the Pacific softball program has another five-game slate this week that features four games at Bill Simoni field Friday and Saturday as part of the annual Libby Matson Tournament, as well as a road game versus Sacramento State on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
The offensive explosion came courtesy of the power bat as the team knocked nine doubles and a homerun to twice reach double digit runs. Doubles have been a staple of the Pacific (4-11) offense this year, ranking second in the conference and 73rd in the nation in total doubles and 94th in doubles per game. Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre, senior
Allie Capello and junior
Bailey Boetjer all rank top ten in the WCC in doubles, but Silvestre has been at the center of the two-baggers.
The redshirt senior's eight doubles lead the conference and enter the week ranked fourth in the country. If Silvestre can maintain her pace, she would finish the season with 29 doubles, which would set the new program single season record. In her next two doubles she will enter the career top-10 in Pacific history.
Looking at the opponents in the Libby Matson Tournament, UC San Diego (10-6) is making its first appearance on the Pacific schedule in program history. Against mutual competition, the Tritons fell to Seattle U on a neutral diamond where the Tigers defeated SU. UCSD also fell to California and Montana, both schools the Tigers will see later in the season.
By contrast, Fresno State (4-7) is making its 14th consecutive appearance on the schedule, having matched up with Pacific every year since 2013. While that spell of meetings has largely favored FSU, the last time the Bulldogs came to Stockton, the Tigers won a 3-1 decision in 2023.
Wednesday provides an opportunity to halt a six-game skid against Sacramento State (12-2) and avenge a walk off loss to the Hornets last weekend. In the most recent matchup, Silvestre was effective on the basepaths adding two more steals to her season ledger – she is currently 4-for-4 this year on stolen base attempts.
All five games will be streamed on ESPN+ this week.
