STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program concludes its season-opening eight-game homestand with a I-5 clash against Sacramento State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (3-4) and Hornets (3-4) enter the contest with identical records after each having played their first seven games at home respectively. Pacific and Sacramento State go head-to-head for the first of five meetings during the 2026 campaign.
Leading the Tigers' offense has been redshirt sophomore
JT Shank, who is hitting .320 (8-for-25) with a team-best six RBIs and four runs scored. Shank has recorded a team-high three multi-hit games through the first two weeks of the season.
Graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan, senior
Grant MacArthur and senior
Jake Tandy have each reached base safely in all seven games this year, providing ample support to the Pacific offense that has averaged 4.86 runs per game.
On the pitching side, the Tigers hold a 4.50 earned run average after series against Utah Valley and Utah Tech. Pacific will play its first of 11 mid-week matchups, looking to utilize the depth of its bullpen on Wednesday night.
The Hornets make the trip south to Stockton, California following a seven-game homestand against UC Irvine and Saint Joseph's, donning a 3-4 record in that span. Sacramento State took three of four games from the Hawks after getting swept by the Anteaters in the season-opening series. In their most recent contest, the Hornets earned a 21-2 victory, posting the most runs in a single game dating back to a 21-9 victory over Nevada in 2024 and the most hits in a game since collecting 23 hits in a game-two victory at Grand Canyon on May 3 of last season.
Luis Pimentel-Guerrero paces the Sacramento State offense with .346 clip and is tied for the team lead in RBIs with five. Two more Hornet players in Sam Harry and Brett Ott are slashing over .300 batting averages through their first seven games of the season. Pitching has been a premium for the Hornets, owning a 3.27 earned run average in 66 innings.
The Tigers and Hornets meet for the 144th all-time meeting between the two programs that dates back to 1967. Pacific is 37-33 all-time at home against Sacramento State, including a 12-8 record since 2006. Last season, the Hornets took three of the four games against the Tigers with the one Pacific victory coming at home by a 6-5 margin on March 8.
In that 6-5 victory, Tandy propelled the Tigers' offense with a three-run home run during a five-run eighth-inning rally to secure the win. Graduate student
Adan Perez turned in a quality start in that game, pitching 6.2 innings with just two earned runs while striking out six Hornet hitters.
Wednesday's contest can be viewed live on ESPN+ with a 6 p.m. scheduled first pitch. Dennis Ackerman will be on the call.
