Women’s Basketball Fights Hard in Loss to Gonzaga

STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Sydney Ward put up a career high 30 points in her final game at the Alex G. Spanos Center, but it was not enough as Pacific fell 85-70 to Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

The senior was near unstoppable in every facet of the offense, reaching 30 points on eight field goals (8-for-14), three three-pointers (3-for-5) and 11 free throws (11-for-13) – the most latter stat of which represents a new career high. She is the first Tiger this season to reach the 30-point threshold and the first to do it at home since Liz Smith did so against Saint Mary's in 2024.

Ward was at her most lethal in the fourth quarter where she tallied 13 of the 30 points. In addition to the scoring, she grabbed six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Offensively she was complimented by redshirt sophomore Stella Szabo who tied her career high nine points, all of which came behind the three-point line on a new personal best three triples. Szabo has been an active scorer in the past three contests contributing 7.3 points per game. She was also a force on the defensive end tallying both of Pacific's (11-16, 6-10 WCC) blocks on the afternoon. It's the first time in her career she has had multiple blocks in the same game.

Fellow sophomore Daria Nestorov followed up her volume scoring role Thursday by playing the facilitator on Saturday, tying her career best nine assists and only committed two turnovers. Resulting from her nine dimes today she moved up to 16th on Pacific's single season list and needs four more to pass Shellie Linden (1985-86) for 15th.

True freshman Sophia Mindermann logged eight more points while sophomore Winner Bartholomew scored nine and junior Nyah Lowery chipped in seven.

Gonzaga (21-8, 13-3) was helped by 39-22 advantage on the boards.

Despite the loss, Saint Mary's was defeated tonight meaning that the Tigers are still alive for the eight seed in the upcoming WCC tournament, which would grant the team a bye into the second round.
The remaining two regular season contests will come on the road at Santa Clara on Thursday and at San Diego on Saturday. Pacific defeated both in Stockton earlier in the season.
