SB Preview at Cal Poly 2026

Tigers Head Down to San Luis Obispo for Weekend of Games

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Pacific softball team will see a trio of familiar foes, and one series first, during the Mustang Classic from February 20-22 at Bob Janssen Field on the Campus of Cal Poly. There the team will play five games, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. against the hosts.

A reprisal of an old Big West Conference matchup, it is the first time since 2022 the Tigers (1-9) and Mustangs (0-5) are taking the field together, which also came at the Mustang Classic where the teams split two-games. Recent matchups between the two schools have been near even with a slight 6-4 CPU edge in the last ten but Pacific has history on its side, holding a decisive 44-29 edge.

Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre is coming off a weekend in which she swung a hot bat collecting five hits (three doubles) at the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Arizona to raise her batting average 82 points to a shade under .300. She currently leads the conference in doubles with six and is on pace to set the Pacific single season record for doubles.

Sacramento State (8-2) also features in the Tigers' weekend, giving the team an opportunity to avenge a season sweep in 2025. Despite a run of unfavorable finishes of late, falling in the last five, the last time Pacific saw Sac State on a neutral diamond was 2020 where the pair split their matchups.

Since making the jump from junior college to division one, junior Bailey Boetjer has been Pacific's best run producer tallying eight RBIs through ten games. Her eight RBIs rank tied for eighth in the WCC and five RBIs against Seattle earlier in the month tie for the third most ever in a single game in program history.

The last of the familiar faces is San Jose State (1-9), whom the team saw three times last season, going 1-2. The Spartans have appeared on the Tigers schedule every year this decade and have evenly split those meetings 4-4. However, it will be the first meeting at a neutral site since 2011, a game in which the Tigers won handily. This is reflected in the overall series history as SJSU only has a small 37-36-1 lead.

Senior Allie Capello continues to be Pacific's most productive hitter, leading the team in both hits (nine) and batting average (.321). Of those nine hits she has two doubles and a homerun to go along with six walks and four runs scored.

The newest opponent Pacific adds to the record book is Manhattan College (3-5) out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The team does have history with the current MAAC going a combined 12-4 (undefeated against four of five opponents) – the most recent of which was a win over Niagara in 2023.

New additions to the program in juniors Kaylah Adams and Zaedi Tagalog have been productive bats recording six and five hits respectively. The former has her first homer at the division one level after transferring in from American River Junior College. Tagalog, a transfer from Arizona, is second on the team in runs scored with four.

The only games streamed this weekend will be Pacific's two matchups against Cal Poly on ESPN+. Fans can follow along through the live stream links on the team's page on the athletics website.
