STOCKTON, Calif. – For the final times in the regular season, the Pacific women's basketball team will lace it up in the Alex G. Spanos Center when the Tigers face San Francisco on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then Gonzaga on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Thursday's game has massive implications on the upcoming WCC Tournament as the Tigers (10-15, 5-9 WCC) enter the week with the nine seed in the tourney but are only a single game back of both Pepperdine and Saint Mary's at the seven and eight spots. San Francisco (15-10, 8-6 WCC) is in the six spot, three games ahead of Pacific.
When these teams last played in January, senior
Sydney Ward was highly productive with a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double, the latter stat of which tied her career high. She also added four steals, a block, three three-pointers, and three assists.
Blocks are a stat to watch for Ward as she enters the contest needing three blocks to become the fourth Tiger in program history with 30 or more blocks in multiple seasons and nine to be the fifth Tiger to reach 100 career blocks.
Sophomore
Daria Nestorov has found her scoring touch once again after tying her career-high 19 points last week against Saint Mary's and followed it up with 15 points against Oregon State, the best two-game scoring stretch of her career. If she can reach double figures on Thursday, it would be the first three game streak of ten or more points in her career.
Playing in Stockton, the Tigers own a 16-10 lead in the all-time series versus San Francisco and defeated the Dons at the Spanos Center last season.
Saturday gives Pacific an opportunity for the first series win over Gonzaga (19-8, 11-3 WCC) since 2016 in what could be the final meeting as WCC foes. Earlier in the month, the team suffered a defeat to the Bulldogs resulting from an off day shooting the three ball. True freshman
Sophia Mindermann was held without a three-pointer in that game, only the fourth time all season.
Despite the performance, Mindermann still ranks as one of 11 freshmen in the country to average more than two made three-pointers per game and ranks third in the WCC in made threes per game.
Within the program she needs four triples over the next four games to crack the single season list.
Prior to the game, Pacific will celebrate Senior Day and the contributions graduate
Hannah Burg and seniors
Mali Ennis,
Luisa Anderegg and
Sydney Ward have made to the program.
