Softball Drops Opening Games of Littlewood Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Pacific offense had a tough two game stretch on Day one of the Littlewood Classic hosted by Arizona State, falling 8-0 in five innings to Indiana in game one followed by a 7-2 defeat to Portland State in game two on Friday.

GAME 1
The Tigers (1-6) saw their most threatening chance to score occur in the first inning getting runners to second and third with no outs after sophomore Peyton Clifford forced an error that allowed a runner to advance from first to third before registering her first stolen base of the season to put early pressure on the Hoosiers (6-2). However, after that opportunity yielded no runs, Pacific was only able to advance a runner to second base one time.

Meanwhile Indiana was able to counter with three first inning runs followed by four in the fourth and finally one in the fifth to force the run rule.

Clifford, alongside senior Jordan Hayes, and junior Kaylah Adams represented the three Tigers hits of the morning while senior Allie Capello was able to reach via a leadoff walk.

The pitcher of record was sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom, who fell to 0-2 and lasted three innings giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks. She also struck out two.

Junior Ariel Nava spun the final four outs of the contest and yielded one run on two hits.

GAME 2
Adams swung her first big fly of the season over the wall in left field to drive home two in the first inning, but similar to the first game Pacific was unable to advance a runner beyond second base following the opening frame.

The homer was one of two hits in game two for Adams, she now has six on the season and is batting .500 through five appearances. Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre also had a base knock, as did junior Bailey Boetjer.

Sophomore Alexa Lewis made her first appearance in the circle this season, taking over for starting junior Justice Alcaraz who opened the first inning before giving way to Lewis.

Alcaraz suffered her third loss of the season and produced a final line of one inning pitched, five hits, three runs (two earned), no walks and no strikeouts.

Lewis meanwhile went 5.2 innings giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits, walked four and struck out two.
