TEMPE, Ariz. – The Pacific softball program remains on the road to compete in the Littlewood Classic at Arizona State from February 13-15, starting Friday at 9 a.m. against Indiana.
The Tigers' (1-4) top of the order carried the team offensively in the first weekend, highlighted by senior
Allie Capello. The senior went 8-for-16 at the plate with two doubles, a homerun, three RBIs, three runs scored, two walks and no strikeouts.
Junior
Bailey Boetjer flashed a power bat out of the three-spot, knocking in five RBIs in the win over Seattle, a feat that already tied the Texas native for the third most single game RBIs in team history and the first instance since 2014. Outside of the Seattle game she remained a dangerous hitter as she ranks second on the team in batting average amongst qualified hitters with a .313 clip.
Friday's opening game against Indiana (5-1) is Pacific's first look at an NCAA Tournament team from a season ago – the first of five the team is slated to play this season. In the series history the team is 3-0 versus the Hoosiers, though the last meeting was in 2013. All three of the previous meetings with Indiana have come on a neutral court.
Both Portland State (2-4) and Nevada (3-2) featured on the Pacific schedule last season with the Tigers taking two of three on the road from PSU but fell twice to Nevada in Fresno. Sophomore
Jayleen Scott had three RBIs in the series clinching win over the Vikings and Capello hit a homer there last season.
Nevada meanwhile saw the best from Silvestre who tallied four hits between the two meetings and senior
Amanda Bricker exploded for a three-hit game against the Wolf Pack. Nevada and Pacific have a home-and-home midweek scheduled for later in the season. In the all-time series, Nevada holds a slight 21-19 edge over the Tigers.
The final two games against host Arizona State are the first meetings since 2013, where Pacific dropped a close one-run affair. Sophomore pitcher
Kaytee Dahlstrom will be a pitcher to watch as her first start in the orange and black saw her rack up six strikeouts, which is more than any Pacific pitcher got in a game last season. Junior
Justice Alcaraz was an innings eater in Hawaii for the Tigers, navigating 17 of the 30 innings and spun two complete games in two starts.
The games against Arizona State on Saturday and Sunday will be the only ones of the weekend streamed. Fans can however follow along and keep track of the team with the live stats link provided on the team's schedule on the website.
