STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball program has two opportunities to stop a five-game slide this week, first hosting Washington State on Thursday at 6 p.m. before making the short drive over to San Francisco to face USF on Saturday at 2p.m.
Thursday's matchup between Pacific (7-11, 2-5 WCC) and Washington State (4-17, 3-5 WCC) is the Tigers' first look at the team that eliminated them from last season's WCC Tournament. The game provides an excellent opportunity for the Tigers' offense to rebound as WSU's scoring defense ranks second to last in the conference at 74 points allowed per game.
This bodes well for sophomore
Winner Bartholomew who has averaged 22 points per game over her last three and is ranked sixth in the WCC in scoring since the calendar flipped to January (17.4 points per game).
Sophomore
Daria Nestorov and senior
Sydney Ward have had similar standout months in their respective categories. Nestorov is fifth in the conference in assists averaging 5.6 a game while Ward is fifth in the conference rebounding at 7.6 per game.
The defense also has an opportunity to put together a rebound performance as Washington State has the third lowest scoring offense in the conference, putting up 62.3 points per game.
In the series history Pacific trails 5-2 after dropping all three meetings last season, but still holds a 2-1 advantage playing in Stockton.
Last season's series with San Francisco was defined by hot shooting offenses. In Pacific's win in Stockton, the Tigers shot over 50% from the field and in the Dons' home win they shot over 50% from the field. Ward was a menace defensively in both contests averaging four blocks per game (five at home and three at USF).
Playing in San Francisco, Pacific trails the series history 20-7 and the all-time series 31-24.
Thursday's game at the Alex G. Spanos Center, as well as Saturday's action at the Sobrato Center, can be seen on ESPN+.
