Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Even First Half Not Enough for No. 9 Pacific against No. 3 Cal

STOCKTON, Calif. – In front of a lively crowd at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center, the ninth-ranked Pacific men's water polo program made some noise in the first half to come back and tie the game at the intermission, but third-ranked Cal prevailed in the second half to grab a 17-9 decision Friday.

The Tigers (6-2) trailed 8-4 in the second quarter when they answered with four consecutive goals to level it 8-8 at the half. Though, the Golden Bears (5-0) netted the first six goals of the second half to leap ahead for good.

Freshman Apostolos Georgaras, the reigning West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Week winner, continued to shine with six goals, his second-highest total of the season. He's up to a team-high 35 goals on the year and averages 4.4 goals per game.

Georgaras was one of three Tigers to score. Fellow freshman Borisz Kasa-Gal registered a pair while sophomore Yoav Rendler scored once.

The Tigers will be back in action Sunday when they travel to UC Davis for an exhibition. The next home appearance is Friday, Sept. 19 when they host an exhibition against Team China – Shanghai at 7 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center. The game offers free general admission for fans.
