STOCKTON, Calif. – Wrapping up its season-long eight-game homestand, the Pacific baseball program welcomes Pepperdine for a three-game series, beginning with Fireworks Night on Friday at 6 p.m. PDT at Klein Family Field. Saturday's contest at 6 p.m. will celebrate Faith Night while Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m. will honor Senior Day.
The Tigers (18-31, 6-12 WCC) will celebrate 16 of their senior players on the squad, taking on the Waves (11-37, 6-12 WCC) this weekend as the two teams battle it out for one of the remaining spots to make it to the West Coast Conference Tournament.
As the WCC standings go, currently San Francisco sits in the sixth position in the WCC standings with one more conference victory (seven wins) over Pacific, Pepperdine and Santa Clara. All four teams are tied in conference winning percentage (.333), but the Dons have a 7-14 record compared to the 6-12 records of the other three schools. The WCC tournament brings the top six conference teams to Las Vegas, Nevada to compete for the conference championship, beginning May 21st through May 24th.
The Tigers' offense has been fueled by a trio of veteran players in junior
Jake Tandy, redshirt senior
JT Waldon and senior
Drake Bicknell. All three players have hit over .300 this season throughout the heart of the order while driving in runs consistently with 20+ RBI each. Tandy and sophomore
Braeden Schnabel are tied for the club lead in home runs with five apiece. Graduate student
Kordell Brown has utilized his speed on the base paths, swiping ten bases in 12 attempts this season.
Fifth year
John-Howard Bobo paces the WCC in batting average during conference play with a .455 mark while Bicknell's 20 RBI across the WCC slate ranks tied for seventh in the conference leaderboards.
On the pitching side, senior
Ethan Shaver has been effective when called upon to the mound. Shaver's four saves in conference play are tied for third in the WCC. As a whole on the pitching front, Pacific's ERA is 7.05, ahead of Pepperdine, who's overall mark is a 7.46 ERA. Senior
Adan Perez and senior
Jakob Guardado have pitched the bulk of innings this year with Perez holding a team-high 51 strikeouts.
Pepperdine has lost five straight games, including a non-conference series last week against Northwestern State. The Waves have a conference series victory over Santa Clara and one win against Gonzaga, San Diego and San Francisco each. After this weekend, the Waves will travel home for a three-game series against LMU to close out their conference slate.
Pacific and Pepperdine will meet for the 46th time in a series that dates back to 1968. Most recently at home, the Tigers took two of three from the Waves during the 2023 season, winning the series opener and finale by 8-2 and 14-11 margins, respectively. In that 14-11 victory, Tandy went 3-for-4, scoring three times and knocking in one Tiger in the process offensively. Since 2014, Pacific owns a 7-7 record in Stockton against the Waves, winning series in 2023, 2019 and 2017.
All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call.
