URBANA, Ill. – The Pacific men's golf program's quest for a national championship begins in the Prairie State at the Urbana Regional, hosted by Illinois at Atkins Golf Club from Monday, May 12 to Wednesday, May 14.
Making their 16th appearance as a team since the 1979-80 season, the Tigers are one of 23 programs represented at the Urbana Regional with 13 programs and 10 individuals from different schools looking to punch their ticket to the 2025 NCAA Championship from May 23-28 in Carlsbad, California, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
Pacific enters the competition ranked at No. 60 in the Div. I rankings according to SCOREBOARD, eager to play the 54-hole tournament across three days, beginning Monday with 18 holes each day.
"With finals just finished up, the team has been able to focus primarily on getting their games ready for the NCAA Regionals," said Pacific head coach
John Cook, who earned his first NCAA regional berth as head coach at Pacific. "We are definitely taking the momentum from conference and looking forward to competing for one of the top five spots to advance to the National Championship!"
The field will feature No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 10 North Carolina, No. 14 Illinois, No. 23 Texas Tech, and No. 26 Long Beach State as the top five seeds. UCLA (35), Houston (38), Marquette (47) and Troy (51) and Pacific are seeded sixth through 10th, respectively, followed by NC State (64), Illinois State (136), and Wright State (163) to round out the 13-team field vying for the five spots to the NCAA Championship.
The Tigers will go with a similar lineup from the West Coast Conference Championship where the team placed fourth among the ten-team field. Spearheading the Pacific lineup will be sophomore
Carlos Astiazaran, who recorded a scoring average of 69.3 across 36 rounds during the regular season, marking the lowest scoring average in Pacific history. Astiazaran was named West Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year alongside Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri, while Cook was recognized as the WCC Coach of the Year, marking the first duo to garner these awards since Pacific joined the conference in 2013.
The Tigers will also see the likes of junior

Timothy Jung, junior
Deitrek Gill, redshirt junior
Daniel Henely and freshman
Brasen Briones over the course of the three-day tournament. Atkins Golf Club's course is a Par-71 course with 7,533 yardage.
