STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program will begin a season-long eight-game homestand with a Tuesday tilt against Fresno State at 6 p.m. PDT at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (18-26) are coming off a third consecutive West Coast Conference series victory after taking two of three from Santa Clara this past weekend. The Bulldogs (22-21) also enter the match-up having won their last series at home against Washington State.
Pacific has shown its resilience in baseball games all year, including this previous week when the team scored six two-out runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 9-8 victory last Saturday. Sophomore
Braeden Schnabel played hero in that comeback, hitting the go-ahead three-run home run to give Pacific the lead and the eventual series victory after senior
Ethan Shaver shut the door with a save in the bottom of the ninth inning.
As a whole, the Tigers' offense has been fueled by junior
Jake Tandy and senior
Drake Bicknell. Tandy paces the Pacific hitting with a .336 batting average that features nine doubles, five home runs and 23 RBI.
Bicknell crushed a key three-run home run last Friday that secured the series-opening win for the Tigers by a 5-4 margin. The native of El Dorado Hills, California has raised his batting average to .310 following a few productive weeks at the plate in April.
On the pitching front, Pacific sports a 6.82 earned run average through 44 games and seeks to repeat a similar outing to that of April 1 when the Tigers defeated the San Jose State Spartans by a 7-2 score at home during a midweek battle. The Tigers are 1-1 against the Mountain West Conference, splitting a home-and-home with SJSU.
Fresno State makes the trek to Stockton following a sweep at home of the Cougars, who joined the Mountain West this year. The Bulldogs are 7-13 away from their friendly confines, looking to ride that three-game winning streak and over .500 record into Tuesday's contest.
Griffen Sotomayor leads the Bulldogs' offense with a .321 batting average and a perfect 7-for-7 in the stolen base department. Murf Gray has a team-high eight home runs along with 45 RBI.
The Tigers and Bulldogs met last year in home-and-home midweek action. Both teams ended up winning their respective home contests. On the road last season, Pacific nearly defeated Fresno State in ten innings, but ultimately came up on the wrong side of a 9-8 decision. The Tigers were victorious in the ensuing meeting, earning a 6-4 victory at Klein Family Field.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call.
