Baseball Continues Conference Slate at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program rides a two-game winning streak into a continuation of West Coast Conference play, facing Santa Clara on the road at Stephen Schott Stadium from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27. Friday's contest begins at 6 p.m. PDT, while Saturday's tilt and Sunday's series finale starts at 1 p.m. PDT and noon PDT, respectively.

The Tigers (16-25, 4-8 WCC) and Broncos (15-21, 4-8 WCC) share identical conference records heading into the three-game series, standing at the bottom of the WCC standings, but are both one win away from moving into the top five of the team leaderboard. The top six WCC teams at the end of the regular season will be eligible for the 2025 WCC Baseball tournament in Las Vegas, beginning May 21st.

Leading the charge offensively for the Tigers recently has been junior Jake Tandy and senior Drake Bicknell. Tandy crushed a walk-off grand slam last Friday to give Pacific a come-from-behind 8-6 victory over San Francisco, raising his team-high batting average to .351 alongside four home runs and 22 RBI.

Bicknell, the native of El Dorado Hills, California, went 10-for-18 last week with three doubles, two runs and seven RBIs. The veteran catcher drove in a career-high five RBI during the Tigers' 16-12 victory last Saturday to clinch the series over the Dons. Bicknell has four three-hit games in the last three weeks, lifting his batting average to .326, which ranks third on the team.

Tandy, Bicknell and redshirt senior JT Waldon all rank among the top 20 in batting average among WCC leaders, while graduate student Kordell Brown's ten stolen bases place him in the top ten.

From a pitching perspective, the Tigers own a 6.87 earned run average with senior Adan Perez leading the staff in terms of ERA (5.61), wins (4), strikeouts (44) and innings pitched (51.1). Pacific has been in several close contests all year, racking up seven saves, which is fourth in the conference.

Santa Clara enters the series having not won a WCC series this year. Most recently, the Broncos dropped two of three at LMU. SCU has lost three of its last four games, including a midweek at Cal Poly.

SCU's Ben Clearly paces the offense with a .295 line, including seven doubles and a home run. Dylan Joyce supplies some power with a team-high five home runs. The Broncos' pitching staff is led by Max Bayles, who has posted a 3.88 ERA with a 2-4 record that features a complete game performance against the Dons on March 22.

Pacific and Santa Clara meet for the 127th time in the series history. The Tigers seek their first road series victory at the Broncos since the 2021 campaign. Last year, Pacific defeated Santa Clara on Senior Day on a walk-off double by Bicknell to win by a 4-3 score at Klein Family Field.

All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
