Men’s Golf Begins Stretch in Arizona with Desert Mountain Collegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Pacific men's golf program plays its next three tournaments in the Grand Canyon State, preparing for the Desert Mountain Collegiate, hosted by Michigan on Saturday and Sunday at Desert Mountain's Outlaw Course.

The Tigers are one of 17 teams competing across the two-day tournament alongside Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Grand Canyon, James Madison, Kansas, Kentucky, Lamar, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Oral Roberts, Southern Illinois, Utah, UTEP, and VCU.

"The team is excited for a couple of tournaments back in Arizona," head coach John Cook said. "We're looking forward to seeing some different teams in the field this week we normally don't get to compete against."

Sophomore Carlos Astiazaran enters the weekend at No. 96 in the Scoreboard rankings following his first place finish individually at the Nick Watney Invitational. Astiazaran, a native of Tucson, Arizona, has won two tournaments individually this season, winning the Leadership & Golf Collegiate Championship on Oct. 21-23, hosted by Saint Mary's.

Sophomore Justin Bai returns to the starting lineup, making his fifth appearance in a tournament this season. Junior Travis Robbie, junior Timothy Jung and junior Deitrek Gill round out the lineup competing in the Desert Mountain Collegiate.

The teams will play 54 holes over the two days. Due to rain, day one will consist of 18 holes of stroke play, followed by the final 36 holes on day two. The Outlaw Course will be set up as a par 72, measuring 7,107 yards.

The first round of the tournament will be at 7:30 a.m. MST/6:30 a.m. PST. Live scoring can be found here.
