STOCKTON, Calif. – An eight-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in the Pacific baseball program's West Coast Conference opening loss to Portland by a 14-9 margin Friday night at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (10-13, 0-1 WCC) took an early lead, but the Pilots (7-15, 1-0 WCC) rallied with an eight-run spot in the fourth inning to take control of the first WCC contest of the season.
Redshirt senior
JT Waldon was a bright spot for the Tigers, recording four hits and four RBI on the night. Junior
Jake Tandy crushed his third home run of the season, extending his hit streak to seven games in the process.
Redshirt sophomore
Carson Revay made his first career start and went a career-long 3.2 innings while striking out three Pilot batters.
The Tigers jumped out in front in the top of the first on a two-RBI single by Waldon.
The two teams battled until the top of the fourth when the Pilots scored eight runs in the frame to take a 9-3 lead.
Pacific chipped away at Portland's cushion throughout the middle stages, but the visitors ultimately held on for the result.
The Tigers and the Pilots go at it in game two of the series tomorrow at Klein Family Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. PDT.
