Pacific Opens West Coast Conference Play at Home Against Portland

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program sails into West Coast Conference play this weekend, welcoming Portland for a three-game series that begins Friday at 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by Sunday's matinee at noon.

The Tigers (10-12) will see the Pilots (6-15) to open their 24-game conference slate during the regular season.

Pacific has steadied the course of the season up until this point, carrying a 7-4 home record into Friday's home weekend series.

The Tigers have battled all season long, finding stretches of confidence at home in series wins over UC San Diego and South Dakota State to start off the year. Led offensively by junior Jake Tandy, the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week paces the offense with a .377 clip and rides a six-game hitting streak.

Redshirt senior JT Waldon leads the Tigers with 18 RBI while redshirt sophomore Andrew Sloan brings in a 12-game on-base streak into the series opener.

On the pitching side, Pacific has utilized its strategies effectively with senior Adan Perez leading the way with a conference-leading 1.33 earned run average through five appearances and four starts. The native of Modesto, California has been a bright spot for the Tigers. In his last outing, Perez earned the decision in a 14-2 victory over Indiana State. Perez leads the staff with 28 strikeouts in 27.0 innings.

The Tigers have been in a lot of close contests this season, holding a 3-3 record in games decided by one run. Pacific has six saves to its name, which is tied with LMU for the conference leader.

The Pilots are led at the plate by Tyler Howard and his .418 batting average. Zach Toglia and Jonas Salk are tied for Portland's home run leaderboard with four apiece. Brady Bean leads the Pilots with 17 RBI and five stolen bases.

On the pitching side, Portland's Ryan Rembisz leads the rotation with a 5.40 earned run average in seven appearances. Rembisz threw a perfect game against Seattle earlier this season.

The Tigers and Pilots meet for the 54th time in the series history that dates back to 1987. Pacific seeks its first victory over Portland since the 2019 season.

All three games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call.
