Swimming Celebrates Success at National Invitational Championship

OCALA, Fla. – The Pacific swimming program capped a successful weekend at the National Invitational Championship Saturday at the FAST Facility in Ocala, Florida.

The Tigers' men's team took ninth place with 734.2 points while the women earned 28th place with 681.1 points. Both programs made strides as the men moved up three places from last season while the women two years ago finished in 43rd.

"Our goal was to move up and score more points than last year, and we did just that," head coach Katelyne Herrington said. "The men were looking to be top ten, and we placed ninth! Leaving the weekend and season accomplished! We couldn't have imagined a better ending to the season."

Junior Mattia Giurgevich earned a gold and a silver medal over the three days. The native of Limbiate, Italy recorded a personal best with a time of 24.39 in the 50 breast on the opening day. Giurgevich also notched second place in the 100 breast, clocking a time of 53.45.

Freshman Josephine Fields was the top performer for the women, collecting 738.0 points over her performances.

In total, the Tigers' men's team collected eight personal bests and a pair of season bests in the effort while the women tallied six personal bests.
