PHOENIX – The Pacific men's golf program closed out the GCU Invitational with a top three finish Wednesday at the GCU Golf Course.
The Tigers shot two-over-par for the two-day tournament, which was good for third place. Sophomore
Carlos Astiazaran completed a third place finish with an eight-under-par as a part of his return to his home state. Grand Canyon won the tournament with a 12-under-par.
"A lot of great stuff to build on from this week as a team," head coach
John Cook said. "We need to clean up a few mental mistakes but definitely heading in the right direction. Carlos had another sensational. His bogey free round today included hitting all 18 greens in regulation, which was a phenomenal ball striking day for him. Unfortunately, he missed the leaders by one shot, but his solid play this spring is a testament to his hard work."
Astiazaran, a native of Tucson, Arizona, tallied a 67 in the first round and a 65 in the final round on Wednesday that shot him up to eight under par across the two days.
Junior
Travis Robbie and junior
Timothy Jung were tied for 18th place within the 99 individuals competing. Both secured two-over-pars.
Sophomore
Justin Bai and junior
Deitrek Gill rounded out the team scoring with a placement in the top 68.
From an individual standpoint, junior
Ian Fritz battled to a tie for 32nd place with a four-over-par.
Pacific will return to Arizona for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at the end of March.
