NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Pacific fought valiantly in every set but was ultimately unable to rally from a 1-0 doubles deficit and took a 5-2 loss to CSUN Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Faced with that early hole from the doubles portion, sophomore
Milena Maiorova claimed her second straight singles triumph with a 7-6, 6-4 win on court two to give Pacific (2-7) a path to the comeback victory but a three-set defeat on court five clinched the match in favor of the Matadors (4-5).
Fellow sophomore
Rayna Sugai closed the match out with her own three-set win (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) on court four to send Pacific out on a high note. Sugai has found success as of late, winning two of her last three singles appearances.
The team remains on the road for its next match, traveling to Azusa, Calif. to face Azusa Pacific on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
