Tigers Finish 11th at Amer Ari Invitational

WAIMEA, Hawaii – The Pacific men's golf program completed the final round of the Amer Ari invitational, securing a tie for 11th place with Stanford on Saturday at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club.
 
The Tigers (-33) held their ground with the heavily competitive field, moving up one spot from yesterday with a ten-under-par. Oklahoma State took home the team tournament title with a 64-under-par.
 
Sophomore Carlos Astiazaran matched his first day round with another six-under-par, totaling a team-best 15-under-par, which put him in a tie for seventh place on the individual leaderboard.
 
"The team will take away a lot of the positives from this week," head coach John Cook said. "We had an opportunity to play with a lot of the best teams in the country and we will use this as motivation to continue to improve!"
 
Astiazaran golfed a bogey-free third round on Saturday, which was the second instance during the Amer Ari Invitational. 
 
Sophomore Justin Bai also completed the tournament with a bogey-free round, which presented him with a score of ten-under-par and a tie for 28th place.
 
Following two rounds of even par scoring, junior Travis Robbie collected a two-under-par for his final total. Junior Deitrek Gill placed in the top half of the 123 particpants with a seven-under-par. 
 
Junior Timothy Jung rounded out the Pacific lineup with a three-over-par across the three days.
 
Freshman Brasen Briones wrapped up his strong performance across the three days competing as an individual. Briones notched an eagle on the seventh hole for the second time during the tournament, bolstering his eight-under-par.
 
The Tigers have two weeks away to prepare for the Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State beginning Feb. 24.
