STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program picked up a pair of wins in Saturday's doubleheader against South Dakota State, winning 4-3 (7 Inn.) and 8-0 at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (5-2) have now won three straight in the series over the Jackrabbits (0-3), behind key performances from fifth year
John-Howard Bobo in the first game and senior
Adan Perez in the second game. Pacific won its first doubleheader at home since 2022 when it defeated Northern Colorado as part of a four-game series.
"I thought Bobo came up big for us, giving us the go-ahead home run," head coach
Reed Peters said. "I thought we rebounded better in game two and had a better approach at the plate. I thought Perez was really good tonight. His tempo was great. Defense was playing well behind him tonight as well."
Game 1 – Pacific 4, South Dakota State 3
Behind the first career home run as a Tiger for Bobo, the Tigers took the opener in seven innings by a 4-3 margin. Sophomore
Robert Orr earned his second save of the season, quieting the Jackrabbits with a well-constructed 1.1 innings in relief.
The Tigers jumped ahead in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of some SDSU miscues to cross three times for a 3-0 lead. The Jackrabbits were able to level the game up in the next two frames before Bobo blasted a deep home run to left field as the eventual game-winning run.
Redshirt sophomore
Carson Revay (1-0) secured the victory in relief, complementing the start by redshirt junior
Nathen Nino.
Game 2 – Pacific 8, South Dakota State 0
The Tigers earned their first shutout victory of the 2025 campaign as Perez, senior
Ethan Shaver and senior
Joe Metcalf worked together on the mound to put a zero on the visitor's side in the nightcap.
Graduate student
Kordell Brown and senior
DJ Scott each recorded multi-hit performances, setting the table for the Tigers' highest run total of the season at eight runs. All Tigers in the starting lineup reached base safely at least once.
Perez (2-0) was lights out, striking out a career-high seven batters in five scoreless innings. Shaver followed Perez with three shutout innings.
Pacific scored first in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead and never looked back. The Tigers utilized a pair of three-run spots (fourth and sixth innings) to keep momentum going all night, reaching a season-high 11 hits en route to the 8-0 victory.
With Metcalf shutting the door in the ninth, the Tigers secured their first shutout victory at home since 2022 against Northern Colorado.
Pacific will go for the series sweep Sunday at Klein Family Field with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
