Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Performances from Yergensen and Mindermann Not Enough to Defeat Seton Hall

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific women's basketball's freshman guards Liv Yergensen and Sophia Mindermann had career days scoring off the bench, but the team was unable to contain Seton Hall in a 57-79 defeat Sunday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The duo led Pacific (1-3) in scoring on the afternoon and did so in much different ways. Yergensen finished with a team-high 13 points and utilized her ability to slash to the rim to earn seven free throws, six of which she sank. She scored four more points on layups and stepped out beyond the arc to hit a three-pointer to reach her final ledger.

However, beyond the arc belonged to Mindermann, who hit a career-high four triples to lead all players. The Folsom native was especially dangerous in the second half where she hit on three of six attempts and grabbed all three of her rebounds on the day. The four threes she hit tied sophomore Daria Nestorov for the most hit in a single game this season by a Tiger.

Something the pair shared was a scoring prowess in the second half as ten of Yergensen's 13 and nine of Mindermann's 12 came in the second half.

Senior Sydney Ward bounced back from the previous game to reassert herself as a force on the boards, leading the team with six rebounds (two offensive, four defensive). Junior Marina Radocaj was right behind Ward with five of her own (two offensive, three defensive).

While the team was not able to overcome a 17-0 Seton Hall (3-0) run in the opening quarter, the Pacific defense was more successful than the Pirates' previous two opponents, holding SHU to a season low 79 points, 46% shooting percentage, and 31 total rebounds.

Leading that charge was the duo of Nestorov and junior Nyah Lowery. The former added two more steals to her season total and Lowery finished one steal shy of her career-high with three steals (stole four balls against Houston last season).

Ward also reasserted herself as one of the conference's premier shot blockers, adding three more to her career total and drawing within three blocks of entering Pacific's career top-ten list.

Up next for the Tigers is another home match, this time welcoming Cal St. Fullerton, out of the Big West, to Stockton. The team has won eight of the last nine against the Titans and holds a 24-6 advantage playing Stockton. That match will be streamed on ESPN+.
