BERKELEY, Calif. – Junior
Rayna Sugai won three matches over the past weekend to reach the Finals of the Call Fall Invitational's singles gold bracket, ultimately earning runner up in the contest to cap off a successful weekend for the program.
The sophomore entered the tournament as the third overall seed, and after overcoming a first set loss in her debut match, handled the next two opponents in straight sets. Faced with the top seed in the finale, Sugai forced a third set but was ultimately unable to close out the comeback bid.
Six of her teammates also competed in the tournament where freshman
Pauline Lerminiaux and sophomore
Maggie Hoe both reached the quarterfinals.
In the doubles bracket, junior
Nahreen Cheam reached the round of 16.
