STOCKTON, Calif. – Defending the net for a Homecoming victory, freshman Kiss Gergely from the No. 18 Pacific men's water polo program was named the West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Week.

The goalkeeper stood out with 11 saves and a steal. He helped the Tigers knock off WCC Preseason favorite No. 7 San Jose State in a 13-12 thriller.

Gergely's 11 saves tied a career-high as he posted a .478 save percentage in the game. The Budapest, Hungary native played all 32 minutes.

Gergely became the third different freshman from Pacific to win WCC Newcomer of the Week this season. Borisz Kasa-Gal won on Sept. 2 and Apostolos Georgaras on Sept. 9.

Gergely and the Tigers travel to No. 8 Pepperdine for a 1 p.m. match Friday. Pacific's final home game will be played Sunday, Nov. 2 when the team hosts No. 15 Cal Baptist at 1 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
