STOCKTON, Calif. – The quest to defend its regular season championship begins Thursday for the No. 17 Pacific men's water polo program when it begins West Coast Conference play against Air Force at 7 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free beanie cap.
Pacific (6-4, 0-0 WCC) went 6-0 in conference last year to win the league. It included a 22-12 win over Air Force (13-5, 0-0 WCC) on the road.
This season, the Tigers have been led by the freshman duo of
Apostolos Georgaras and
Borisz Kasa-Gal. Georgaras has scored 40 goals on the season with at least two in every game, while Kasa-Gal has registered 30 goals including four in the team's last outing at UC Santa Barbara.
Air Force has Division I wins this year over Cal State Fullerton and LIU. The team is led by senior Tom Leggett who led the nation last year in both goals (143) and points (183) and was an All-America Third-Team honoree.
Pacific is 22-3 all-time against Air Force and has won six consecutive meetings. The Tigers have won five straight meetings in Stockton dating back to 1995.
Pacific will close out the weekend with another WCC match-up when it travels to No. 15 Santa Clara for a 12 p.m. game Sunday. The Tigers lead the all-time series 34-3 and have won 16 of the last 17 meetings including a 13-5 victory last season.
