No. 7 Pacific Opens Season with 21-11 Win at No. 20 Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a 22-11 exhibition win over Iona, the seventh-ranked Pacific men's water polo program began the regular season with a 21-11 road victory against 20th-ranked Brown on Saturday at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

The match against Brown (0-2) was tied 3-3 late in the first quarter when a buzzer beater by graduate Matthew Hosmer sparked a 6-0 run to create separation in the second. The Tigers went up 10-4 at the intermission and never looked back.

Graduate Oliver Fodor led the offense with four goals including one in each quarter, while senior Gil Gvishi, senior Reuel D'Souza and Hosmer all netted hat tricks. Pacific garnered goals from 11 different student-athletes.

"It was a great opening day, and the team did a lot of amazing things on offense. We learned a lot about our team that will help us adapt and iterate," said head coach James Graham.

The Tigers extended the lead to 16-7 after a goal by senior Manuel Pembertty near the end of the third quarter. The final tally was a score by senior Daniel Viscia with 50 seconds left in the game.

Pacific improved to 10-0 all-time against Brown.

In the exhibition win over Iona, the Tigers came out hot and jumped out to an 8-1 advantage midway through the second quarter. Senior Mihailo Vukazic was on fire and ended with a game-high five goals.

Graduate goalkeeper Bae Fountain got the start in net in both games to earn the wins. Graduate Lewis Gale also saw action in the fourth quarter of each game.

Pacific will head to Cambridge, Massachusetts on Sunday for two more matches, starting with a 6 a.m. (PT) contest against No. 15 Harvard at Blodgett Pool. The weekend will conclude with an 11:30 a.m. (PT) exhibition against MIT, hosted by Harvard.
